Board of directors Q+A

Roles include officers (4) as well as selected (12) and appointed directors (9) by Bylaw 6.3. The following is a description of the individuals who would fulfill a given role.

Officer: Officers on the board of directors are those individuals actively serving on the Foursquare lead team. These are: The president, director of U.S. missions/general supervisor, director of global missions, and corporate secretary/director of corporate business and finance.

Selected director: A representative from a district (2 for each district), selected by the ministers of that district to serve on the board.

Appointed director: A board member appointed to serve on the board.

Note: Most non-officer directors are pastors. Currently, the board also has nonvoting board-appointed participants per bylaw 6.4.

Our bylaws state (6.2) that “the number of directors shall be not less than 12 and not more than 25.” Currently, the board is comprised of 24 directors and two board-appointed nonvoting participants.

The board of directors meets face to face four or five times a year, and has a teleconference meeting each month. In addition, the executive committee of the board has a weekly conference call to handle the delegated matters that are within policy.

The board of directors assigns committees to assist in the process of making informed decisions; there are currently 12 committees. Learn more about committees.
