To reach the lost, we first have to see them. Chris Hodges, senior pastor of Church of the Highlands in Birmingham, Ala., and co-founder of the Association of Related Churches, shares humorous personal stories, an inspiring call to action, and reminds us of the real reason for Pentecost. Recorded live at Connection 2012 in Phoenix.

Churches nationwide struggle to find the balance between being Spirit-filled to build disciples and being relevant to reach the lost. Senior Pastor Chris Hodges of Church of the Highlands in Birmingham, Ala., is no stranger to this dilemma. But he maintains both groups can be reached through one church when Christians are empowered by the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit, Chris says, is the only way to reconcile with God and others. The Foursquare Church’s quest, then, should be to reclaim what happened on the day of Pentecost: Peter, empowered by the Holy Spirit, delivered a simple salvation message that reached thousands.

“Evangelism is the message of Pentecost,” Chris said at Connection 2012 in Phoenix.

To reclaim the fervor of Foursquare Founder Aimee Semple McPherson and to experience revival similar to Acts 2, today’s church needs to open its eyes, seize every opportunity, and reclaim its passion to reach the lost, Chris asserts.
