Sangamon Valley Church is seeking a part-time operations pastor for its congregation in Mahomet, Ill. The operations pastor will serve Sangamon Valley Church (SVC) by providing spiritual leadership and pastoral care and overseeing the church’s administrative and operational functions. This role includes responsibilities such as bookkeeping, cleaning and other duties as assigned. The ideal candidate will be a compassionate, organized and flexible individual committed to serving our faith community and the greater community.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Pastoral care:
  • Provide spiritual guidance and support to church members through coaching, prayer and visitation.
  • Conduct events, including preaching and teaching.
  • Officiate weddings, funerals and other church ceremonies.
  • Facilitate group meetings and Bible studies.
  1. Administrative duties:
  • Manage church finances, including bookkeeping, budget preparation and financial reporting.
  • Maintain accurate records of donations, expenses and other financial transactions.
  • Coordinate with the senior pastor to ensure financial transparency and accountability.
  • Assist in preparing agendas and reports for church meetings.
  1. Cleaning and maintenance:
  • Ensure the church building and grounds are clean, well-maintained and presentable.
  • Perform regular cleaning tasks, such as vacuuming, dusting and restroom maintenance.
  • Oversee routine maintenance and coordinate with external service providers for repairs as needed.
  1. Additional duties:
  • Attend and participate in local church events and, on occasion, other events as assigned.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all church attendees and guests.
  • Collaborate with volunteers and other church staff to support various church activities and programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the senior pastor or their designee.

Qualifications:

  • Pastoral license recognized by The Foursquare Church or ability to become licensed within 18 months of hire.
  • A strong personal faith and a commitment to the mission and values of SVC.
  • Demonstrated experience in pastoral care, teaching and church administration.
  • Proficient in bookkeeping and financial management.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and integrity in all aspects of the role.
  • Background check and completion of child-safety training required.
  • Adherence to Staff Handbook and other church policies.
  • Ability to lift 25+ pounds.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a similar role within a church setting.
  • Knowledge of church-management software and financial tools.
  • Basic maintenance and cleaning skills.

Working conditions:

  • Flexible working hours including weekends and evenings as needed.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks related to cleaning and maintenance.
