Have you ever had a moment where you confidently asserted a theological truth, and had a listener ask you what you meant, only to be met with the disquieting realization that you couldn’t rephrase your statement?

Daniel A. Brown, Ph.D.

Whether offering a cultural translation of justification, or finding contemporary words to express the mind-bending truth of the baptism with the Holy Spirit, we must face the challenge of explaining our faith and the truths of the Bible to those who are in some way on the outside.

Daniel A. Brown, Ph.D., founding pastor of The Coastlands (Aptos Foursquare Church) in Aptos, Calif., spends much of his time traveling internationally, teaching pastors and disciples what the Scriptures mean and how to read the Bible for ourselves today.

“If we will do fresh Bible study, it will create fresh understanding, which will give place to fresh language that is actually spiritually empowered,” Daniel said during a Training Session at Foursquare Connection 2016 in Hawaii.

As he has traveled, he has found that many believers are confused about the nature of and reception of “spirituals” (usually translated “spiritual gifts” in common Bible versions) as expressed in 1 Cor. 12–14. In this session, Daniel offers a globally scoped vision of the need for recapturing the fullness of Spirit-vitality in the lives of believers, gives insights into scriptural digging, and brings out some encouraging and challenging gems on the normal ministry of the Holy Spirit through disciples.

Listen to the whole Training Session, including a Q&A time that covers issues on culture and discernment.
