Covenant Worship’s highly anticipated live-recording album, Kingdom, can’t fit into just one category of music—it’s a great mix of rock, Gospel, praise and worship wrapped into 12 powerful tracks.

Pastors Mike and Kathy Hayes lead the multicultural and multi-campus Covenant Church, and this is reflected in the music. The album features Covenant’s choir and worship team, led by worship pastors David and Nicole Binion, Covenant worship leaders Joshua DuFrene and Colin Edge, as well as guest vocals from five-time GRAMMY-Award winner Israel Houghton, who produced the project and co-wrote eight of the album’s tracks.

Kingdom goes on a musical journey of various genres. “New Every Morning” sounds like a cross of Tommy Walker and The Rock Worship out of Anaheim, Calif., both of which I am a personal fan. “Risen,” one of my personal favorites on the album, is filled with praise and life—it is one of the “get up, jump around and pump your fist” kind of songs. “Kingdom Come” seems to come from the Deep South and offers a unique, upbeat, Southern rockin’ twang.

There is a special something that happens when songs from the 90s (when I first discovered worship music) or hymns are redone or put into a medley; they instantly get on my list of favorites. I found myself caught up in worship while listening to bonus track “I Am Loved Medley.” This song is a must—get the digital copy of the album so you don’t miss out.

Although I’m not a worship leader, I believe these songs could be arranged to work within a local church setting. On to what I do know: This is a must-add to your music library!

The album is extremely enjoyable and uplifting in its entirety. The live recording element is not at all distracting. Pastors and adult congregation members will especially appreciate this project.
