I am Kim Post, and this is my husband, Amos. We are part of Journey, a Foursquare church in South Royalton, Vt., pastored by Brad and Carol Keller.
Amos and I met in 2003 while working together at a local Texaco station. I was in my final year of high school, and Amos was in college. We worked together on the weekends and progressively developed a friendship. It was when I came into work excited about getting into college—the same one Amos was attending—that we started to realize there was more to our relationship than we initially thought.
We grew up in very different homes. Amos grew up with five siblings, on his family's farm and went to church every Sunday. I grew up with a sister and a half-brother, and never went to church once before meeting Amos. My first experience in a church was a midnight Christmas service with Amos and his family.
Halfway through my college career, we relocated to California for six months so I could complete an internship. We found a church, and became part of their choir. It was then that going to church became part of our lives.
However, when we returned to Vermont so I could finish the second half of my schooling, we found it easier to find other things to do on Sunday. At the end of my school program, I was required to complete a second internship, and Amos and I both decided it would be better to stay closer to home.
Unmarried at the time, we moved in together (again), and started searching for a church. We landed at Journey, and that is where we have been for the past year and a half.
We met our friends Chris and Mindy here at Journey. Chris and Mindy mentored us and set an example of how to live our lives for God. They asked if we were planning to get married. They taught us how to see God in our lives and in our relationship.
We had been going to Journey for five months when Amos decided to propose to me. Of course, I said yes! After a lot of talking and praying, we knew that to get married the way we wanted and to have God's blessing, we needed to be living apart until the wedding. We chose to move into our own apartments in July 2008.
The next year was a hard one. We learned how to rely on our church family and God. We both took the year to learn about ourselves and what we would have to sacrifice when we came together. At this point, Amos joined the worship team at Journey, and we started facilitating a journaling group together.
We went through our pre-marital counseling with Chris and Mindy so we would learn to communicate with each other and prepare for the wedding, which took place on June 27, 2009.
Amos and I are grateful for the support of our church family as we really begin our walk with God and learn what He has in store for us.
