Good morning!

Vertigo—it is a condition you would neither want, nor wish on someone else. Technically speaking, vertigo means your equilibrium has been disturbed. It creates the sensation that things are moving when they're not. Causes of vertigo are varied, ranging from external factors such as sunstroke to internal factors such as middle ear infections. Whatever the source, vertigo definitely interrupts any plans for normalcy!

As someone who helps oversee the vast partnerships of ministers and ministries across the U.S., I often observe and help respond to some very complex scenarios. Typically, these scenarios involve a range of relational, emotional, physical, financial and spiritual issues—and they usually cause a definite disturbance of equilibrium. As a result, those involved may become overwhelmed with feelings of helplessness and a sense of extreme vulnerability. Though the origin of the difficulty may be unclear, it becomes apparent that things are out of whack! The outcome is a definite interruption of normalcy, in actions, thoughts and leadership.

When we feel overwhelmed, we generally look first for an external explanation. I know I've been there and done that! In my devotions this week, I was intrigued by David's words in Psalm 139:23-24 (NIV): "Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."

We spend a lot of time questioning whether we can trust others and sometimes even wonder whether we can trust the Lord! Maybe the question is whether He can trust us. The next time you sense the world spinning around you, don't necessarily start looking for external sources. The root very well could be internal—one dictionary lists "toxemia caused by infection" as one source of vertigo. Start now, and be brutally transparent before the Lord! Tell Him how you feel. Get it all on the table, and then trust the Great Physician to re-establish your bearings and bring healing to your soul! Your leadership health (or lack of it) will affect everything and everyone that you lead!

In His service,

Glenn Burris Jr.

"He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions." -Psalm 107:20 (NKJV)
