QuickVerse 3.0 by Smith Micro Software, Inc.

November 3, 2009

Mac/PC; $49.99 (download version; also available in software format for Mac/PC)

Smith Micro Software, Inc. released its new version of their QuickVerse Bible study software earlier this year, and it's available for both Mac and Windows platforms. In a nutshell, the program is a very useful tool that students of the Word, from new believers to veteran ministry workers, will find beneficial to their studies.

The amount of information included in the software alone is well worth the money paid. QuickVerse is filled with a wide array of Bible resources, including 13 Bible translations, commentaries, dictionaries and devotionals relating to many different aspects of the Christian faith. It also contains daily reading plans catered to the specific day of the year the user begins his or her study. In addition, a short section dedicated to theology and doctrine is incorporated; geared toward the history of the early church, it is equipped with maps and related photos.

Another key feature QuickVerse offers is a Bible study series section, where users may navigate through different study lessons. Each lesson reads like a book, with scroll-over Scripture references that pop up without having to open a separate "Bible" window.

As beneficial as QuickVerse is, however, there are some areas where improvements could be made in future developments. The program is filled with an abundant amount of useful information, which is great—but because every resource opens up in its own separate window, it can become a bit overwhelming to look at. For example, if a user is browsing through the Bible, two commentaries and three dictionary resources—all while going through his or her daily reading plan—the computer screen becomes inundated with seven different windows.

The ability to add more resources, such as additional Bible translations and commentaries, was also a bit difficult to navigate through. Short of a phone call to the company, attempting to add more features was hard to figure out.

Still, with the ability to highlight passages, bookmark placements, and cross reference Scripture with dictionary entries and/or other Bible translations, QuickVerse is a great investment to any ministry worker's Bible resource library.
